Master
Teaching focuses on three interconnected perspectives:
- the imparting of reflexive, analytical competencesand scientific grounds,
- the development of spatial concepts and strategiesin preparation for urban development and design tasks, and
- the design and control of spatial processes by appropriate methods, instruments and process architectures.
Master in Architecture and Urban Planning
The chair is central to the Master's course in Urban Planning and plays an important role in the Master's course in Architecture. In addition to the seminars, the central teaching format in the curriculum. is the studio (project-oriented study). This enables in-depth work on spatial concepts and strategies from a neighbourhood to a regional scale, in each case building on a well-founded analytical groundwork. An interdisciplinary working culture is fostered in cooperation with related chairs at the faculty and other departments within RWTH Aachen University. Projects are offered in close dialogue with professionals, giving students important insights and contacts in future fields of work.
In addition, the studio is carried out as a research studioto introduce students to the academic work and current research projects of the chair. Research modulesare offered in close relation to current research and dissertation projects within the team. This also prepares students for a scientific track and subsequent doctorate. Pt.Talksfacilitates exchange among young scientists and offers insights into current research projects in the field of planning theory and urban development.
Transforming City Regions
The English-language Master's program centers around urban-regional transformation processes along selected international focus areas. With a strong research orientation, analysis and conception of systemic interrelationships between different spatial levels, subject areas and control levers are emphasized. The Master's program harnesses the potential for cooperation within RWTH University and offers a highly interdisciplinary range of topics.
