Reasearch Report on the Impact Analysis IBA Basel
At the end of the 10-year international building exhibition in the cross-border agglomeration of Basel, the IBA Basel and the Office for Spatial Development ARE commissioned the PT chair in cooperation with Studio | Stadt | Region with the implementation of an impact analysis. The analysis explores the impact of the IBA along its work on specific projects and is fundamentally based on the self-assessment of those who were involved in IBA projects. The experiences of involved actors over a period of ten years were captured through a quantitative survey, in-depth discussions in focus groups and accompanying interviews.
In addition to the operational contribution of the office and the concrete project work, IBA Basel was able to have an impact on three levels: the activation and networking of actors, the planning activities and the trinational quality of space and life. In its course, IBA has created a dynamic that contributes to the design of the trinational region around Basel and thus to the improvement of the quality of space and life. Various actors from three countries cooperate in complex projects across borders. This creates numerous connections between cross-border activities that strengthen the network of actors and create a common planning culture. Initiated by the ten years long IBA, the open learning process will accompany the regional development in the upcoming post-IBA phase.
PT has now published the results of the impact analysis in a project report. The reflection of achievements provides a basis for content and messages that will be exhibited in the upcoming IBA Expo. Due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic in summer 2020, the IBA Basel Expo had to be postponed. The final presentation with content from the impact analysis will take place from May 2021 over a period of five weeks in the Dome on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein.
